We are currently at an important crossroads, where infrastructure originally designed to account for human behaviour is clashing with the nature of automated processes. Examples of this include road signage and traffic lights, as well as the design of cars. What will happen to these designs? The cityscape, the interior design of cars, will human behaviour remain accentuated with merely a backdrop of AI and new technology, or will humans ‘move into the backseat’, giving up all control of these processes? That is the question that Mental Maps made 3D answers, investigating facets of current life that could lead us to an answer, such as videogames. Furthermore, the work also delves into how our mental maps, the expectations on has of something, relate to physical designs, using the metaphorical example of origami.
