The Engaging Society in Responsible Research and Innovation: What’s Next? conference will take place between Monday 9th November – Tuesday 10th November 2015, at the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts, Brussels.
The two-day conference marks the culmination of the EU funded Engage2020. The project has spent two years mapping engagement methods and practice across Europe, and the conference will present the results and stage discussions of trends, needs, tools and instruments for an increased and better societal engagement in research and innovation.
Engage 2020 state on their website that “‘the future of the European science and technology field depends on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). Wider engagement with European citizens, stakeholders and users is a crucial part of this emerging landscape”‘ and that “‘Regardless of what role you play in research and innovation in the future you will need to consider how societal actors can work with you to address societal challenges”‘.
The promoters aim is to help participants acquire knowledge about the latest and most promising developments in public engagement in research and innovation, to learn more about main streaming public engagement in Horizon 2020 and good practices from across Europe and beyond, and equip themselves with the skills and inspiration needed for public engagement projects. They aim to do this by bringing together leading thinkers and policy makers from across Europe and across the European institutions
The event is free to attend, but registration is required through the Engage2020 website, where you can also find details of the event, incuding speakers and layout. Foreign Correspondent Jonathan Hankins will attend the event on behalf of the Bassetti Foundation.
