The Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference takes place between the 27th and 29th of October. It is hosted by the The Government of India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and is the forth in a series of such conferences. Its motto of Upscaling and Mainstreaming Renewables for Energy Security, Climate Change and Economic Development concisely sums up the broader aims of the event.
The conferences promoters state that it is an international platform for government, private sector, and civil society leaders to jointly address the goal of advancing renewable energy, and speakers include government ministers as well as high level policy makers from all over the world. One of their stated aims is to promote a better understanding of “the policy efforts needed to encourage and enable a major renewables scale up” and “what is needed to mobilize finance for renewable energy innovation and deployment”.
The list of speakers is impressive and includes amongst others the President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Dr Farooq Abdullah, the Indian government Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Dr Rajendra K Pachauri, Director-General of The Energy and Resources Institute and Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The program is vast, with papers dealing with in a wide range of matters including the green economy, sustainability, policy making and the funding of research and innovation in the sector.
The conference will be the largest renewables gathering ever hosted by India and includes a large International trade fair.
